Meeting, and the train

The meeting point is the steps by the old railway carriage and the newsagent at Sorrento's Circumvesuviana terminus on Piazza Giovanni Battista de Curtis. The operator names the assistant who will be there in a branded shirt and asks you to look for that person specifically, because — in its own words — several similar tours meet in the same spot.

There are two departures: meet at 09:30 for the 10:03 train, or meet at 10:15 for the 10:40. The listing is explicit that the slot you book cannot be changed on the day, so pick the one that suits before you pay. The second departure was added for 2026 because of demand.

The train is the ordinary Circumvesuviana, about forty-five minutes to Pompei Scavi – Villa dei Misteri. At the Pompeii end the listing tells participants to stay with the guide and to ignore anyone else offering directions, which is sound advice at that station.

Two hours inside, then the rest of the day

Skip-the-line entry takes the group straight in at Porta Marina. The guided walk runs two hours with listening devices, covering the market, the Forum and the villas, and the guide hands the headsets back at the end.

Then the tour formally ends, and this is where the listing earns its place at the top of our comparison of Pompeii tours from Sorrento: "Opportunity to stay as long as you like after the 2hr guided tour as your train tickets are valid all day." You can walk east down Via dell'Abbondanza to the amphitheatre, out to the Garden of the Fugitives, or simply sit somewhere in the middle of the afternoon when the coach groups have been marched back to their car parks.

One American reviewer put the trade honestly: this is not a complete tour of Pompeii, because the city is very large, but the guide covers the highlights and then gives you recommendations for exploring on your own. That is exactly the shape of the product.

What is included, and what almost certainly is not

The inclusion list says "entry tickets to the archaeological site" and stops there. Since the park sells Pompeii express at €20 and Pompeii+ at €25, and this listing charges no supplement and never mentions the suburban villas, the working assumption is the €20 express grade — the ancient city, without the Villa of the Mysteries.

That matters if the villa is why you are travelling. It sits outside the Herculaneum Gate and no tour on this site opens it. Because this tour leaves you inside afterwards, though, you have an option the coach days do not: add the suburban-villas route on the day for €8, card payment only, at the Herculaneum Gate, before 17:30 in summer or 15:30 in winter. One useful note in the operator's own FAQ: children enter the park free on production of ID, but you still buy them a place on the tour at the child rate.

The free Sunday it refuses to sell

Admission to Pompeii is free on the first Sunday of every month. This operator does not run on those days, and says why in its own listing: "We do not sell our tour on these free days as, the Site tends to be over crowded so we avoid going on these days."

A business turning down a day of free-entry demand is a reasonable signal about what that day is actually like. Another listing on this site puts it differently and warns that on a free first Sunday access is not guaranteed at all. If your trip includes one, go on the Monday.

What the same journey costs without the guide

Sorrento to Pompei is fare band AC3 on the Unico Campania scale: €2.80 a single on the Circumvesuviana, €5.60 return, and the EAV L1 train takes 39 to 40 minutes. Add the €20 Pompeii express ticket and an independent day comes to about €25.60.

So the $61 here buys the guide, the headsets, the tickets bought for you and someone at both ends of the journey making sure you are on the right train and away from the touts. That is roughly €30, and it is the narrowest guided premium of any base near Pompeii — the arithmetic is set out in full here.

Book it if

You want the two hours explained and the afternoon to yourself. You are staying in central Sorrento and can walk to the station. You would rather spend €30 on a guide than €60 on a coach seat. It is your first visit and you have read nothing.

It is also the sensible choice for a second visit, because the guided part is short enough not to feel like a repeat and the all-day ticket does the rest.

Book something else if

You need collecting from a hotel: the train tours have no pickup, and the coach half-day or the small-group van does. You want Mount Vesuvius as well, which no train tour reaches — the Vesuvius days are here. You want a longer guided walk: the coach half-day gives two and a half hours. Or you want Herculaneum in the same day, which is the two-site minivan.

One comparison worth making before you book: the all-inclusive train tour does nearly the same thing for $52, and names its ticket grade in writing. It does not promise the all-day ticket in the same words, and it scores lower on transport, but it is the cheaper door into the same day.

From the hotel to the last train

Sorrento's terminus is five to ten minutes on foot from most of the town centre, and the tour does not wait. The listing asks anyone travelling in from outside Sorrento to allow for traffic on the coast road.
