The Two Tickets, Side by Side
The park restructured its tariff on 12 January 2026. The old single day ticket is gone, and the replacement pair is not a premium upsell so much as a split: one ticket for the city, one for the city plus everything outside its walls.
What each grade opens
Pompeii express, €20, is the ancient city: the Forum and the Temple of Jupiter, the Basilica, the Macellum, the Stabian and Forum baths, the bakeries and thermopolia, the Lupanare, the House of the Faun, both theatres, the amphitheatre and the Great Palaestra, and the plaster casts. That is the overwhelming majority of what people come to see, and it is a full day's walking.
Pompeii+, €25, adds the suburban villas outside the Herculaneum Gate — the Villa of the Mysteries, whose life-size fresco frieze on a deep red ground is the single most famous painted room to survive from the Roman world, and the Villa of Diomedes — together with Villa Regina at Boscoreale and its Antiquarium, and a shuttle bus between the sites.
A reduced €2.00 ticket exists for EU citizens aged 18 to 24 with valid ID. Under-18s enter free but still need a ticket issued in their name.

The €8 rescue at the Herculaneum Gate
If you bought the €20 ticket and change your mind inside — which is common, because the Villa of the Mysteries is signposted from within the site — the suburban-villas route can be added on the day for €8, at the Herculaneum Gate, where the route begins. Card payment only; there is no cash desk for it.
Two things to note. The villas route is not sold on its own, so this only works if you already hold a valid day ticket. And the last entry at Porta Ercolano is 17:30 in summer and 15:30 in winter, earlier than the site's own closing time — so a late-afternoon change of mind does not work in either season.
What the Sorrento Tours Actually Say
Every listing compared on this site was read on 30 August 2026 for the exact words it uses about the entry ticket — the inclusion list, not the marketing copy. This is the result.
Five of them name it
The all-inclusive train tour includes a "Skip-the-line entrance ticket 'Express'".
The small-group van with transfers includes a "Pompeii Express entry ticket".
The two-site minivan day includes "'Pompeii Express' entry tickets".
The half-day-or-full-day coach goes furthest on price and prints "Entrance to Pompeii € 20.00 and Vesuvius € 11,68" in its own inclusion list — the only listing anywhere in this comparison that names the fare.
And the EAV-ticket tour is the only one that names what it does not sell you: it includes an "Express / skip-the-line entrance ticket to the Pompeii Archaeological Park" and lists "Pompeii Plus entrance ticket" under what is not included. That is unusually straight, and it deserves saying out loud.

What to assume about the other seven
The remaining listings say "skip-the-line", "priority access" or "entrance fee" and stop there. Since the express ticket is €20, Pompeii+ is €25 and no listing charges a supplement for the villas or mentions them at all, the working assumption for every one of them is the €20 express grade.
That is not a cynical reading. It is the only one consistent with the prices: a tour selling a €25 ticket inside a $52 package would be losing money it has no reason to lose, and an operator that had bought the better ticket would say so, because it is a selling point.
For context, of the twelve equivalent listings from Rome exactly one names its ticket grade. Sorrento's operators are disclosing more than the industry does, not less.
If the Villa of the Mysteries Is Why You Are Going
Then the tours on this site cannot take you, and it is better to know that before you book than at the Herculaneum Gate.
Three ways to see it
Buy Pompeii+ and go alone. €25 for the ticket and €5.60 for the return train from Sorrento: about €30.60 for the city and the villas, with as long as the park is open to walk it. The independent day is set out here.
Take a tour and upgrade on the day. Pay the €8 card-only supplement at the Herculaneum Gate once the guided two hours are over. This only works on a tour that leaves you free afterwards — the train tours whose ticket stays valid all day — and only before 17:30 in summer or 15:30 in winter.
Take a tour and accept the walls. The guided two hours never leave the city anyway, so if the villas are a nice-to-have rather than the point, nothing is lost.
What does not work is booking any tour on this site expecting the villas to be included. None of them is, and none of them claims to be.
The Caps, the Quota and the Free Sunday
Two rules decide whether the ticket you want is on sale at all on the day you want it, and both are on the park's own visiting page rather than any listing.
20,000 a day, and 3,000 Pompeii+ in the morning
Tickets are nominative — the name on the booking should be the name on your passport — and the park caps the site at 20,000 admissions a day.
Between 16 March and 14 October the 09:00 to 13:00 window takes at most 15,000 admissions, of which only 3,000 are Pompeii+. The 13:00 to 17:30 window takes 5,000, of which 2,000 are Pompeii+.
Read that quota again if the villas matter to you: three thousand of fifteen thousand. The Pompeii+ morning allocation is the thing that runs out, and it runs out first in high season. Buy on vivaticket, the official channel linked from the park's own site, well before you travel.

The free Sunday nobody sensible takes
Admission is free on the first Sunday of every month, with direct access and no ticket. It is also the day the site is at its worst.
The operator of the best-reviewed train tour on this site will not sell that day at all, saying in its own listing that "the site tends to be over crowded so we avoid going on these days". Another warns that on a free first Sunday "access is not guaranteed" — free entry does not mean you get in.
