Pompeii Skip-the-Line, Train Ticket and Guided Tour from Sorrento

The office, the tickets and the train

You start at the operator's office inside the EAV Circumvesuviana station in Sorrento, Piazza G.B. De Curtis 11, ten to fifteen minutes before your chosen time. Staff hand over your round-trip EAV train tickets and your tour voucher and make sure you board the right train — which, on a line where the platform signs matter and several similar tours leave from the same steps, is a real service rather than a formality.

At the Pompeii end you go to the operator's second office, on the first floor of the red Circumvesuviana station building, about 100 metres from the Porta Marina Superiore entrance, where the guide meets you. The operator contacts you on WhatsApp before the activity with the train departure details and the tour timing.

Regios VII and VIII, then the rest of the day

With express access the group goes straight in and the guide walks you for two hours through regios VII and VIII — the two districts around the Forum, which hold the Basilica, the Macellum, the Stabian Baths, the Lupanare and the House of the Faun. Guided tours run in English, Italian and Spanish, and a whisper system is supplied for groups over fifteen.

When the two hours end you stay inside the park for as long as you wish, and use the return train ticket whenever it suits. One British reviewer described the tour as only four hours but the whole package well worth the ticket price; another wrote that being able to explore more of Pompeii on their own afterwards was the best part.

Two hours is what every listing here gives you

Guided time inside the walls runs 2 hours to 2.5 hours across every Sorrento listing on this site, whatever it costs. The difference between a $52 half-day and a $189 full day is Vesuvius, Herculaneum, lunch and hotel pickup, never more time in the ruins. Judge these tours on what they add outside the walls, not on the hours inside them.

The exclusion, in the operator's own words

The inclusion list includes an "Express / skip-the-line entrance ticket to the Pompeii Archaeological Park". Directly beneath, under what is not included, it lists "Pompeii Plus entrance ticket".

That second line is the whole point. Every other listing compared here either names the express grade or says nothing at all; this one closes the loop and tells you the better ticket is not part of the deal. It is a small act of straightness that costs the operator a sale to anyone who wanted the villas, and it is worth rewarding.

What it means practically: you will walk the ancient city, and the Villa of the Mysteries is not on your ticket. Because this tour leaves you inside afterwards, you can add the suburban-villas route on the day for €8, card payment only, at the Herculaneum Gate, before 17:30 in summer or 15:30 in winter.

The two grades, and which one this is

Since 12 January 2026 Pompeii sells Pompeii+ at €25.00, which includes the suburban villas, and Pompeii express at €20.00, the ancient city only. The suburban villas can be added on the day for €8, card payment only, at the Herculaneum Gate. No tour from Sorrento includes the villas. The full audit of what each listing buys is here.

Reduced rates and ID

A valid ID is required for all participants. Guests under 18 must present ID to obtain their free park admission — free entry to the site, not to the tour, for which a child place is still bought. The reduced 18 to 24 rate is available only to EU citizens with valid ID, which the listing states directly rather than leaving to the ticket desk.

Hours, and what they mean for this day

Pompeii opens 09:00 to 19:00 with last entry 17:30 from 16 March to 14 October, and 09:00 to 17:00 with last entry 15:30 from 15 October to 15 March. Entry is free on the first Sunday of each month, which is also the most crowded day of the month — one operator on this site refuses to run tours on it for that reason.

What the same journey costs without the guide

Sorrento to Pompei is fare band AC3 on the Unico Campania scale: €2.80 a single on the Circumvesuviana, €5.60 return, and the EAV L1 train takes 39 to 40 minutes. With the €20 Pompeii express ticket, an independent day comes to about €25.60 — the arithmetic is set out in full here.

Book it if

You want somebody to put the tickets in your hand rather than emailing you a voucher. You would rather read an exclusion than guess at one. You want the guided two hours and then the long afternoon, which this listing gives you in writing.

The WhatsApp contact before the day and the two staffed offices — one at each end of the line — are what the extra $20 over the cheapest train tour buys. On a line where the wrong platform costs you an hour, that is a defensible price.

Book something else if

You are travelling with anyone the listing excludes: it is not suitable for wheelchair users, pregnant women, people over 95 or hearing-impaired travellers. You need hotel pickup, which the coach half-day provides. You want Vesuvius, which is a different shape of day entirely.

Arrive early at the office: the ticket handover is what the timing depends on, and the train will not wait. Comfortable shoes are listed as required, and water, sunscreen and a hat are recommended in summer.
